CALLING ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS, ARTISTS, AND FILM MAKERS! We want you! And more importantly, we want to showcase your work!

Submissions are now being accepted for the Steel City Bike Film Festival and for the Photography/Art Exhibit. Submissions can be sent to newhopebike [at] gmail.com 

The Steel City Bike Film Festival will be happening on June 15th. Films chosen will play before our feature presentation.

The Photography/Art Exhibit will be happening throughout Bike Month, and winners will be chosen on June 15th.

SUBMISSION DETAILS:

Film makers: If you would like to submit a film to be considered for screening, please email newhopebike [at] gmail.com with the subject “SCBF Film Fest”. Please limit submissions to 5 minutes in length, and please submit no more than 3 films. Please send an online link to your films (YouTube, Vimeo) or a low-quality/email friendly .mov file. There will be a prize for best film (people’s choice vote)! Deadline for submission is May 31, 2013.

Photographers/Artists: Please submit low-res jpegs of your photos (or a photo of your art piece) to newhopebike [at] gmail.com or upload via Instagram for the specific category. Pieces will be judged in three (4) categories.

1. Cycling/Bikes in Hamilton - please provide a location with the submission.

2. Beyond the city - photos from the other part of the globe

3. Mixed media - Anything cycle related that is not a photograph.

4. Instagram - That’s right instagram a bike photo with the hashtag #scbf2013 and you could be eligible to win, how easy is that!

Please limit the amount of photos you submit to 6. If one of your photos/art pieces is chosen, you will have the opportunity to display your art at one of our gallery/café locations. Please note that photographers/artists will be responsible for printing/framing their work. There will be a prize for best photo (people’s choice vote)! Last date for submissions is May 31st, 2013. 

The Steel City Bike Festival will be hosting a “Kidical Mass” ride on Saturday, June 15th. Kids (and parents/guardians!) are invited to meet at New Hope Bikes at 9am for a delicious pancake breakfast. Once everyone’s tummies are full, we ride! See you there! (Helmets mandatory!)

Details:

Open to tenants, cyclists, and public alike
Suggested donation of $3 gets you: 3 pancakes, 2 breakfast sausages, fruit, and a beverage
Beverage choices include: Orange Juice, Tea*, and Coffee*
(*free refills on tea and coffee)

We are looking volunteers to help cook breakfast – Volunteers receive free breakfast! If interested please talk to Mike.

Friday, June 14th we will be hosting a Memorial Ride for Blane—but at night. Instead of a traditional memorial with candles, we’ll be lighting up our bikes with glow sticks, LEDs, glow in the dark paint—you name it—and we’ll be doing a group ride to celebrate the life of Blane.

Bike lights and other things that glow will be available for purchase at a low cost prior to the ride. Please note that helmets are mandatory.
